First love

So I’ve been working for a major beverage company which will remain unnamed for 27yrs. It is a pretty mindless job which gives me plenty of time to think which could be good or bad depending on how you look at it or what frame of mind you are in when attempting to think.

Anyway, I was thinking about the church of Ephesus aka the loveless church. Jesus gives them 7 commendations.

·Good works
·Labor
·Patience
·Not tolerating evil
(as did the other churches)
·Testing those who came to them claiming to be apostles,
·Persevering
·Not become weary

He then goes to rebuke them

Revelation 2:4 NKJV

Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.

This really got my mind going. They were doing all these things right but “you have left your first love.” So who was my first love? Jesus is the obvious answer, no brainer, duh. But what does He mean “you have left your first love.”? So I started remembering when I first became a Christian.  I remember having such a passionate zeal for  Christ that I told everyone. (I have left my first love). I still tell people if the topic goes to that in some form. I remember being excited to wake up on Sunday morning to go to service. (I have left my first love) Oh dont get me wrong I still go but at times its more out of obligation than wanting to be there.
I remember not wanting worship to stop. (I have left my first love) now im tapping my feet because I’m not so excited that they started a third song. I remember wanting to hear more of the sermon even after 1 & 1/2 hrs. (I have left my first love) Now 30 mins in I’m looking at my watch wondering is he gonna end?

I could go on and on about how great things started out and how they have plateaud. (I think I misspelled that but spellchecker didn’t catch it so I must be good). I think we all go through it if we are honest with ourselves.

My prayer;

Father God please tenderize my heart again so that I desire to return to you my first love. Wherever my heart has drifted or gotten lukewarm, return me back to You.
God I give you permission to do whatever it takes to make me wholly Yours. Set my heart on fire for you.
Send a Holy ambush of Your Spirit into my life to usher me out of the ruts that have hindered me from being a dreamer, a lover and a warrior.
Please forgive me. Its in Christ name I pray. Amen.
